The Tarot Circle ~ By Cathy Mason
For 2 1/2 years now, UCCL has provided a haven to a circle of people who love Tarot, following the Unity principles of community with people of varied beliefs. Cathy Mason and Helena Brook started the circle as a way to expand their Tarot horizons. They would meet and discuss cards and books and spreads for hours and wanted to learn from others, as well as share their findings.
On the third Saturday of the month from Noon to 2 p.m., the circle gathers in the children's church at UCCL. For the first hour, there is the traditional check-in, then a lesson. Members of the circle or an invited speaker share their knowledge. The topics consist mainly of Tarot, but the circle opens itself up to many metaphysical topics, as well. Examples of past sessions include: a six-week intensive of the Court Cards, reverse cards, pendulums, mediumship and the I-Ching. In the second part of the session, the circle breaks into groups of two or three to read cards for each other. At the end, a love offering is gathered and given to the church in appreciation.
At each session, there is always a combination of longtime members and people who are attending for the first time to create energy of enthusiasm, acceptance and illumination.
The circle is open to all who have an interest in Tarot, whether it be curiosity or a lifetime of experience in studying the cards. Common ground is found among any who join the circle in seeking better to understand themselves, their circumstances, the Universe and their place in it.
